Cons: The seeking activity is LOUD, do not be alarmed, it's not a defect (though it is somewhat of a design oversight).
Pros: Reliability * warranty * Fastest non-SSD speeds you'll get Comment:
So when I just got this I became paranoid that it was defective, as it made the "click click clclclclikc click" sound all the time. Turns out after extensive internet searching that this is an inherent thing with modern Caviar Black HDDs, where there is bare minimum acoustic management with the seeking, to maximize speed/reliability.It took me about a month to get used to this noise though, but now it does not bother me anymore.Past that, this Hard-drive is pretty snazzy. |

Pro Video EditorRuns quickly and quiet in RAID , I can run any footage I want from HDV, DSLR to RED. I have an additional drive as backup, but have had no concerns whatsoever, I use an SSD for my applications and OS, but these serve up the space eating content material rapidly and steady! none Really hard drives are essential. |

Works fantastic, the second time about. My initial HD took a dump on me after significantly less than a year of ownership. I hope I didn't shed as well quite a few infant pictures. I gave it a 2 initially simply because it lately took a dump on me. I named WD and they sent me a new a single [there buyer service necessary some support] and they upgraded me to a 1.5 TB. |

Cons: Runs a bit hot
Pros: Good speedNot very noisy as a hard drive Comment:
Bought it for my gaming rig, mostly for storing music and games as a secondary hard drive, very satisfied with the product, quick loading times for games. Will probably buy an additional one for RAID. |

I have two of these drives. 1st one particular performs great. Ordered an additional. Second drive arrived; would not format and shortly thereafter would not even spin up. Dead. Something has to be accomplished ?!?! These are potentially seriously good drives, but I am seeing also quite a few DOA drives in these reviews. Totally sucks I have to pay บ to ship a defective solution back. RMAs for poor solutions ought to not expense consumers! |

Pros: Performance, good price for storage capacity Comment:
This drive is my 3rd one , the 2 other ones are in a systeme in Raid 0 and runs for the last 3 years without any issues. It's funny to see that i paid 99$ each on sale almost when they lunched them 3 years ago. Now i just paid 89$ on sale.Performance wise they're great and really fast.Yes it is true that it is noisy, if it matter then go for anSSD.There are the most realiable drives i had ever owned. |

Very good steady drives although not the quickest nevertheless relatively quick. I actually really should have taken all the stars back due to the fact right after buying two of these considering that I would use them in RAID , I found out that you can't use these drives for RAID as great old Western Digital who I Utilized to trust turned off or actually entirely took out the TLER function (Time Restricted Error Recovery) from these drives so that you can't use them in that manner and so you will have to either get their additional high-priced Enterprise drives or the also pricey Raptor/Velociraptor drives. I purchased these drives with great faith and set them aside for when I could afford the water cooling gear I would need for a Sandy Bridge setup. I then found a guy that a fix on his internet site for the TLER on the Black's and didn't read all the way by way of the short article to where it mentioned that the fix no longer worked since Western Digital should have identified out about the fix and fixed items so you couldn't use it any longer. My bad for not reading all the way through but come on Western D, you people require to place the truth that the drives aren't usable in a RAID array in red letters someplace in the goods overview. Considering that I didn't come across all this out until right after the 30 day period when you can return or replace items on newegg I am out a lot of money and will have to once more get drives that will perform in RAID . Possibly that's what WD desires to have occur? Well now I assume I will go to a Samsung Spinpoint anyway because it is a bit quicker drive and useable for RAID arrays. FYI Absolutely everyone! |

None really with the drives that were sent to me - they have been both dead on arrival. 2 consecutive drives dead on arrival. Soon after returning both drives to Newegg, I ordered the exact same drive elsewhere and it worked flawlessly...and was packed much better to prevent harm in transit. |
Been using the Caviar Black in all the systems I assemble for many years now and they are great. I bought more than 30 of these in all formats (500, 640, 1TB, 2TB) and only had 1 failed after 2 years. It was replaced swiftly by WD who honoured their warranty without problems. I still got a 640 running from 2009. They are fast but a bit noisy. In gaming system I only install those for programs (with SSD for Windows).
