Western Digital Caviar Black 4TB 64MB Cache 7200RPM 3.5in SATA3 Internal Hard Drive OEM
Cons:Drive had many bad sectors, so it was RMA back to NCIX

Pros:Wasn't DOA but unfortunately wasn't working properly
Comment:
My third WD drive, and the first to have any issues. NCIX processed RMA quickly and a new drive is on the way back to me. Malfunctions, and DOA items happen so I'm not to concerned about it. Overall, I've a very happy WD customer!I do not expect any problems with the new drive, but I'll update  accordingly once I've used it.

Western Digital Caviar Black 4TB 64MB Cache 7200RPM 3.5in SATA3 Internal Hard Drive OEM
Cons:It might be best to be careful if using docks or otherwise no fan cooling, as then the drive runs hot, if in constant use.

Pros:Great price ($210 on special sale)Tests out fine (I got two) and replacing 1T drives which are coming to end of life after years of constant 24/7 use.Linux Mint worked fine with setting one up as boot drive on uefi Sabertooth board.5 year warranty (checked).Good temp (33C) with regular HAFX cooling.
Comment:
I lucked in on the special sale, which really is lucky with less than 6 months warranty to go on my 1T blacks. Drives both old and new show perfect testing scores. Toshibas and Seagates show warranty from production date - so typically a few months less than expected. These show full five years. I did things the hard way with manual partitioning and learning about setting up boot partitions, but then Mint16 install did the rest for setting up as boot drive with efi.

Western Digital Caviar Black 4TB 64MB Cache 7200RPM 3.5in SATA3 Internal Hard Drive OEM
Cons:5 Platter design

Pros:Very roomy drive , low price per GB
Comment:
This is a great storage hard-drive. I upgraded to this hard drive as it can hold alot of content and I have a nice peace of mind with the 5year warranty and the fact that it is a Black hard drive. I wouldn't recommend raiding them due to lack of TLER but thats a massive storage system to require 8TB.After formatting it comes down to 3726GB. Make sure when formatting to use GPT as MBR will not recognize anything more than 2TB. UEFI is also required for booting with GPT hard-drives. That means that the motherboard must support UEFI vs the old classic bios style. However older motherboards will still recognize this hard drive as long as you are running an OS that is 64bit and supports GPT drives.I chose 5 Platter design as a con simply because the less platters there are the more aerial density and performance can be achieved. It's not necessarily a bad thing but WD chose this design (800Gbx5) for longevity.

Western Digital Caviar Black 4TB 64MB Cache 7200RPM 3.5in SATA3 Internal Hard Drive OEM
Cons:The price is high due to the high capacity, but I think it is a better bargain and more efficient than two smaller drives.

Pros:The drive has plenty of storage, is fast and quiet in my system.
Comment:
This drive is the main backup for my Windows 8 system. I do a lot of video and photo editing, so my backups include many huge files. I installed this drive, set up a regular backup and it has been working away for the past six months. I also use it for scratch disks in some Adobe products. I'm pleased with this drive and plan to add another one of these to my system soon.

Western Digital Caviar Black 4TB 64MB Cache 7200RPM 3.5in SATA3 Internal Hard Drive OEM
Cons:Still costly

Pros:Largest capacity drive currently availableWD reliability
Comment:
Got it on surprise sale price of $279.99 so was happy not to pay the regular price of $349. I'm sure prices will continue to decline. I'm happy with the drive overall - slight problem setting up as one large drive off the bat. I had to get Windows 7 to set it up as a GPT drive and off it went like a champ. If you need lots of storage on a single drive, then this is what you want.

Western Digital Caviar Black 4TB 64MB Cache 7200RPM 3.5in SATA3 Internal Hard Drive OEM
Cons:Price is a little high but that will drop  given time.

Pros:4TB of storage
Comment:
Very good drive if you need the storage. Does not sound any louder than my other drives, but runs a little bit hotter, but not extremely so. (only a few degrees c)Just a warning, may not work with some older external USB drive enclosures/docks. My Vantec HDD Dock only sees this a a 2TB drive. But this is not a fault of the hard drive.
