Fast and dependable. I boot up in about 15-20 seconds. (Not Windows) I have had no issues with the HD. I could go on about what it isn't, SSD, 3TB, but you know what you are buying, and it is that. No complaints. I want to get a different, but if you have the few additional bucks, get the 1TB version with 64MB cache. Can't take of eggs for what it isn't. Every little thing it claims is accurate and exceeds expectations, so five eggs. Having owned quite a few WD black's, all I have to say is: Doesn't the name speak for itself? None. I've had a best track record with these. |

Cons:Wasn't on sale when I bought it.
Pros:Price/Performance Ratio. Comment:
Bought this for an OS drive and can't be happier for price/performance ratio. Already using a couple 1tb blacks for storage so wanted to opt for a smaller capacity OS drive. If you can't afford an SSD then this is the way to go. |

This drive is pretty quiet. I'd heard that the 1TB and larger drives have too several platters and make noise. I just got a mobo with SATA 3 capability Ɩ. gb/s), but I really don't think that receiving a HDD with the same spec is worth it. 32 MB cache is sufficient, and games load up a lot speedy. I'm happy with the read/write functioning and low noise level. Challenging drives can't read/transfer information practically as rapidly as SATA 2 Ɠ. gb/s) already delivers, so the SATA 3 Ɩ. gb/s) is just a perk. |

None None It's a drive and does what a drive need to do. I purchased this to install an upgrade to Windows 7 on. I can't say if it's any quicker than the Caviar Blue drives I've bought and run XP on. I haven't had any problems with the WD drives I've bought. |

Installed quickly, the superior 1 appears to function fine. I purchased two originally and 1 was DOA. From what I hear thats about the proper ratio for WD. My 1st build and ordered by way of Newegg. Their return system worked fantastic. Sent the poor one back (had to pay for shipping) and they promptly sent a replacement. I haven't installed it however so I hope its a superior one. |

Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB 3.5" SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Cons:none so far
Pros:More reliable than WD caviar blue drives Comment:
This drive is definitely worth the few extra $$$ over a WD caviar blue drive. It comes with a 5 year warranty instead of 3 and so far, haven't seen one break. If you have budget restrictions and can't afford a Velociraptor drive or SSD drive, use this to run your operating system and another drive like a WD green 2tb (wd20ears) for your documents folder. |

both drives I received work none genuinely type of pointless, in my opinion to have sata three on a mechanical tough drive simply because those speeds are fairly much unobtainable, but still a excellent drive. |

6Gbps, 32MB Cache, Caviar Black - sounds like you couldn't go wrong with this 1, correct? Wrong. Ran into a funny issue whilst making use of this as my only challenging drive with an ASUS Sabertooth X58 motherboard, and installing Windows Server 2008 (Vista kernel) x86. The Windows installation environment could partition the drive, but not format it nor install to it. Another ƓGbps) drive in the exact same SATA port, with the exact same SATA cable, worked fine. Funny sufficient, installing Windows Server 2008 R2 (Windows 7 kernel) worked fine with this drive. Thinking I'd perhaps got a bad drive, I swapped it for one more of the very same model - similar issue. Jumping pins 5 and 6 on the drive, which caps the drive at 3Gbps mode, allowed me to install Windows Server 2008 with out any troubles, but now my drive isn't a 6Gbps drive. When I have time, I'll attempt removing the jumper, on the theory that the problem only occurs throughout installation - we'll see what occurs. Either way, I'm disappointed that I had to do this a lot thinking and troubleshooting just to do some thing as uncomplicated as install an operating system on a difficult drive. |
SATA 6., 500gb at a decent cost. It's pretty fast. None so far. I received three of these, All worked with no errors proper out of the box. I am using two of them in a RAID 1 setup and am going to order three additional for a RAID five setup.
