Plugged it in, and it worked - no hassles, no configuration (as expected); it's quiet and doesn't appear to generate undue heat; more rapidly than old stock drive in Dell desktop; rather fantastic price tag/performance ratio None at present time. It doesn't cook my breakfast? Employed this drive to reinvigorate an old Dell workplace desktop - it's my Š desktop machine. Had an old XP installation on a 40GB drive that created molasses look rapidly. Installed Ubuntu on the WD drive. Quick speed improve (you'd anticipate that with a new installation) and a lot far more area. No hassles - took me about 90 minutes to swap drives and set up and configure the OS to my satisfaction. As an aside, I've gone to Ubuntu for each my office machines and also my operate laptop - the laptop is a state-pf-the-art i7 laptop, but the desktops are 6-year-old P4s that ran quite slowly with XP. So I'm pleased each with the drive and the OS. This was a really cost-efficient way to upgrade each office machines and make them rapidly & beneficial once again.Newegg delivered the drive in jig time as usual - one particular day sooner than promised - and the item was effectively-packaged. Regardless of the product, you can't beat purchasing it from Newegg! Thanks the moment once again, guys. |

Low cost replacement. Haven't had any concerns with these tricky drives so far. I bought this and put it in a prospects Toshiba and it works w/o error. none. Cost/GB isn't the best. (but the 7200rpm speeds up loading instances substantially) |

I'm updating my prior critique. I purchased 2 in 2007. I currently have them operating in RAID . Prior to this, copying about ten GB of data from my 640 GB drive to my C:, which is a single of these babies, took about 4 minutes. Now copying from my 640 GB drive to my C: drive (in RAID working with these two drives) takes 1 minute and 45 seconds. Boot into Windows 7 used to take about 35 seconds with only 1 drive as the major boot drive. Now it's taking about 25 seconds with RAID . none When SSD prices come down to earth I'll acquire some. |

-Strong drives-Rapid enough-Cost-3yr warranty-Dependable!! none! I purchased 2 of these in Sept 2007, they are striped in a raid0 on my gaming program. I have no regrets whatsoever and these are nonetheless blazing the similar as when they were new. My Pc is on a min of 14hr/day M-F and stays on ALL WEEKEND. I am thinking of ordering a bunch of these once more for my new gaming program. not looking forward to acquiring problems with other bigger drives particularly going with SATAIII. And i dont load my Computer with junk and i still have area left, even even though dual booting WinXP PRO x32 and x64. I have 80GB free of charge so that's why i am thinking of ordering small drives again. |

This is an update to redeem myself for an earlier unfavorabe assessment. The two WD HDs are performing nicely as far as I can tell. They are quiet and reasonably fast.. at least for me. None whatsoever. I advocate this HD. I originally panned this HD since of extremely unstable Pc operation (crashes, lockups, BSOD, etc) which I originally attributed (In ignorance) to a faulty HD. I RMA'd three or four instances with small improvement. Being a small wiser (?) now, I ultimately heeded some additional sage tips from this internet site and changed out the sata cables, and all my difficulties disappeared. I am duel booting with Ubuntu ten.04 on first WD HD and Windows Vista Premium on the second WD HD with no concerns..None. So, I pass on this guidance - If you are having what seem to be MB or HD glitches, you may try some much better high quality sada cables first. |

* Reasonably inexpensive, taking into consideration* Reliable drive (thusfar) no troubles within 3 weeks, nor do I anticipate any* Quick enough to get Windows 7 64bit and XBMC auto-run inside 42 seconds (only a X2 250 driving the system) * None, I knew what I was getting just before I got it, so size isn't a con, I knew it was only 3Gb/sec just before acquiring and I knew the cache size |

Does what it's supposed to do, with out hassle and at a very good value! I've had mine for over two years running Vista Ultimate and, up till this past week, has worked beautifully! The workload on my computer system had drastically increased which could be why the issue has just surfaced. Not genuinely a logical option for overheavy users and gamers. I'm not sure at this point if it's the HD or perhaps the cables...must know for confident this evening! Great thing I know people who are substantially smarter about these factors that I can turn to! |

Inexpensive, rapidly, dependable, not DOA. None so far. Bought this drive on 12ቭ. Have been utilizing it for gaming and school function. Have not run into any problems with it. |
They work great!. They are low-cost!. Have had 1 for about 2 years now and decided to RAID0 4 of these drives. 640 GB for 120 dollars which is expensive for the quantity of space but it is quick. I got HD tune readings of:Transfer Rate:Min: 57.4 MB/SecMax: 206.eight MB/SecAVG 167.9 MB/secAccess time: 9.7 msBurst rate: 115.9 MB/Secwhich tends to make it on par with the caviar blacks for burst rate. and kills it in the access time and more than double the AVG transfer rate. RAID with 4 hard drives, if 1 dies the complete issue breaks. Make positive you have a disk image in situation you will need to restore. Also these drives only have 8mb of cache These drives are inexpensive but not cheaply made. Western Digital drives seem to last for ever. Also these had been enjoyable and cheap drives to understand RAID on and I am satisfied with my setup.Oh and I also could not get previous a WEI rating of five.9 (lowest nevertheless on my laptop or computer) but i know it is much better than that.
