Runs cool and quiet, great value. More rapidly than my old SATA2 160GB WD drive by just about double the typical transfer rates. I don't know of any arm/platter drives that can hit the advertised 6 Gb/s xfer price, but this is advertised as such. Get a SSD if you want these sorts of transfer rates. Quiet, cool operating, effortless to install, nice set of tools obtainable with WD Tools.Good price for full warranty, I paid much more than double for 1st 500 GB HD some years ago. None so far with this drive, but have had 3 HD failures in the final year, two of them were Western Digital...other was a Maxtor 300GB HD. Lost a 320GB WD Black drive that had a complete retail warranty so I was able to replace it with a WD 2TB Green that has been fine for file backup. Lost a 500GB WD Black that was a OEM refurbished that had only a 90 day warranty...In no way once again, died about a year after buy and lost all my backup information. I purchase only with the full warranty as WD will supply replacements at excellent rates. But I factor Newegg.com might have superior sale prices. |

Low-cost, and functions great. Not the quickest, but for the cost, you seriously can't complain. Plug in, set up OS, and go. For the couple of WD drives that have died, WD's RMA service is really rapidly, longest turnaround has been no longer than a week. None really. |

I have a Motherboard with SATA three and six connections and this challenging drive performs considerably faster than my SATA 3. Fairly and does the job I purchased it for (a dual boot drive). No problems as of yet None at this time... As of a lot of of you, I find Newegg to have won me over from the other on the net seller (TD), with there rapid service and far better pricing. And a question to sparke210... I realize this could seem to be a dumb query, but for the slow speed you are finding, are you employing a SATA 6 cable? |

Inexpensive at ื Slow on 6gbs port on Asus MB. Had a three-wd1600bevt raid and replaced it with this drive. DOG slow in Win 7 Pro 64 compared to an old WD750AAKS or the raid described above. This is NOT Quick. Massive directories take a long time to load in Windows Explorer. I know comparing to a raid is not apples to apples but the old SATA II 750AAKS Black is also WAY quicker. Ran the alignment computer software for Advanced format drives and it said it was either aligned or didn't assistance advanced format. My other sophisticated format drive shows up green in the alignment computer software. this a single shows up red. the capabilities discription mentions Sophisticated format but WD's web site does not have it on the short list of ADF drives... I feel like I got ripped off:( |

Cheap. Didn't final lengthy. I read that people have been experiencing failures. I guess I discovered one. I've used this drive as a periodic back up for videos, photographs, and college operate. I utilised it with the Rosewill USB dock, and I've written to it about five occasions. Other than that it's been in an antistatic bag. This failure couldn't have happened at a worse time. I'm broke and can't afford to get a new really hard drive for backup, and I live in each day worry of my primary difficult drive killing over. I don't think I'll be making use of Western Digital anymore. On a side note, my pal has the WD5000AAKS, and it's a strange coincidence that it died last night. He had his for 2.5 years, even though. |

Great cost and quickly shipping.Had a great encounter with WD Drives untill now I have been a powerful supporter of newegg from the time the corporation began. I have bought atleast 15-20 challenging drives from them and more than the years i noticed that the quality of packaging has been decreasing, and this 1 is the worst. The challenging drives are just packaged with very little assistance to defend them from shock in transit. I would not have been worried if these are some type of strong state drives or flash drives. Now I am worried that if they have been mishandled and so might just give up soon after couple of months and loose all my data. |

It's no louder than any other HDD. As usual, Newegg's delivery time was great, and online tracking is indispensable. This drive had the impact of actually slowing functionality on my machine (Gigabyte MoBo 880GMA-UD2H, 4GB DDR3 RAM, Phenom2 x4 965 proc, XP SP3, 6Gbit/s cable) by 35 seconds(!) at boot-up. I measured its overall performance against my existing Samsung HD502HJ 500GB 3Gbit/s HDD, by cloning, and ran the test three times each. Load time for PremierePro CS4 was 10 seconds slower and Photoshop CS4 was about five secs slower. GRC's Spinrite 6 reported that it would want 40 hours to verify it for errors (option 4), vs 14 hours for the Samsung, reporting a very significantly slower study capability. (A 500GB Hitachi Deskstar HDD I use on a distinct machine also is reported by Spinrite to call for only 14 hours.) On further google reading, it seems that a 6Gbit/s HDD is completely pointless because spinning platters can't possibly output anyplace close to the throughput potential of SSDs, for which that speed is intended. See wikipedia.orgs's entry for SATA, "...even the fastest standard difficult disk drives can barely saturate the original SATA 1.five Gbit/s bandwidth...". I want I'd recognized that ahead of I hit "buy". I'm returning it & I'll instead get another Newegg 3Gbit/s Samsung or Hitachi HDD although I save for a SSD. |

bought 2 for ื each. and 2 new 6GB cables. They also showed no negative sectors soon after running indepth scans on each drives. my old seagate 250GB & samsung 1GB with 32mb cache on sata three ports are alot more quickly & 5 to 8C cooler. I believed I'd give them a try since I had two open 6.0GB ports open on the motherboard. They are really a bit faster than a 3 yr old 250GBቬmb WD I retain as a clone of my seagate boot drive. I had a Wd 500g Caviar Black make it abou three weeks. I have the drive but can't find the receipt !!! & it was manufactured 1-28-2010. my loss for positive !!!-- gotta commence filing all these receipts !!! |

Surprisingly fast for a Blue model (not as rapidly as my Vertex2 SSD but certainly above typical HD), also extremely quiet, it's been more than a month now and I have not had any difficulty with it so far none thought of getting a different SSD but since their prices are still steep got this 1 and don't regret. And Newegg as usual guidelines (used to be a frequent Tiger Direct buyer but located costs and service far better here). |
