Sleek design and style, handy stand/dock Virtual CD Drive, stand/dock, (minor) micro-usb This is a pretty fantastic portable HD, I truly don't fully grasp why WD went the VCD way as an alternative of the old way of just putting the "extras" straight on the HD as it's rather annoying to have it attach so quite a few devices when plugging it in. The stand is handy, even so it either doesn't weight adequate or grab the HD enough which causes the HD to vibrate more than just laying it on its side. The micro usb connector is a small annoying on the other hand most cellphones are employing that connector so the kind of cable isn't also rare. As a final note this will show up as 465GB, this is normal as they define the methods (KB/MB/GB) as 1000 exactly where as most computers define it as 2Ⓜ or 1024. |

The hardware works fine. I like the size, it is tiny. Can be operated with or devoid of the base. I have a number ofunits and use only 1 base. Why did they force the backup software? If I wanted software program I would have preferred to add it myself. They have installed this backup hardware that can not be removed. When ever you plug the HD into the usb, this starts into operation. It is a real pain. The backup software can't be erased or wiped from the memory. |

Smaller size four.25 x 3.25 x .5 than listed. Encryption software is easy to use on installed systems. Also uncomplicated to use on systems that don't have the full package. As soon as the unit is plugged in I get a prompt for the password. Non-common mini-USB connector into the drive (not the dock). The loss of the 18" cable would be a major difficulty on the road. Replacement would possibly be required straight from WD.I would get a different, at least I would then have two of the cables. |

Kind element and dock are good.Tech help good. Backup computer software would crash. I purchased this drive for the true time backup software program that came with it. Unfortunaltly, the software program would install and run the very first backup, but on subsequent reboots, the program would crash (Win 7 32 Bit). WD tech support wasn't in a position to resolve the concern after two weeks so I returned the drive. |

Works as described. Beautiful look. Price is too high. It's hard to put the HDD on the base. I bought it for my friend as a gift. To personal use, I would not invest added 50 bucks for a red box. |

Slim, compact, conveniently pre-assembled I believed I bought a 500GB hard drive, not a 465GB Hard Drive with Un-removable software embedded on it. I was sadly mistaken once once again. Thanks for the let down WD! Subsequent time I'll obtain and OEM drive and an external enclosure so I can assemble it myself, and install what I want, when I want it. |
It's a good piece of hardware. Included rootkit (google for wd smartware rootkit) which is unmovable - you can only protect against it from popping up. The drive does NOT work at all when you don't have administrative proper on a pc (again, simply because of the smartware rootkit which is incorporated in the firmware), which means that it's useless in a common corporate atmosphere. WD needs to stick to constructing tough drives, and get rid of the annoying firmware.
