This drive is a excellent upgrade for an older laptop with an IDE controller. The drive runs at 5400 RPMs which is a major improvement if you are still making use of a 4200 RPM drive. IDE drives are a lot more pricey than the same size SATA drive. |

Basic installation, quiet, more quickly than the original, and twice the size. Bios right away recognized, used the Toshiba restore disk which formatted 鳊 gb limit on this old bios) and installed. Couldn't have been less difficult. none It's an old laptop and ata is an old format--modest and somewhat high priced c/w SATA drives now. But it's kept a backup laptop or computer alive and effectively for a little investment. Seems like the excellent drive for this generation of toshiba satellite laptops |

Substantially faster than stock drive. Quieter than stock drive. Runs cooler than stock drive. Operates excellent. Actually extends the life and usefulness of an older laptop over stock 30GB drive. You basically have to (carefully) tear your ibook to pieces to set up. Some people today have talked a clicking noise in macs below ten.4. I hear it but have had no complications or kernal panics for over a year. |

QuietSpeedy compared to the old 20g it replaced. Adds life to older notebooks.WD Reliability. WD is all I use now. Not a con particularly against the drive but a minor engineering dilemma. This drive is a couple of thousandths of an inch thicker than the old 20 gig. See other. A little pricey but P-ATA drives are becoming obsolete and options are few, which naturally drives up the price. Drive was DOA. Not recognized and could not get previous POST. Removed the drive for inspection and noticed the following: The Dell drive tray\caddy has the typical 4 holes for mounting the drive prior to sliding it back in the laptop, but Dell placed a smaller strip of aluminum tape about every single hole. The tape covers the holes but ALSO extends down and outward along the bottom of the tray by about threeǞ inch. Hunting at the old and new drive I could see the WD Scorpio was slightly thicker than the old Hitachi. With the drive secured, the additional thickness was sufficient to ground out the drive's PCB against the aluminum tape causing it to fail. 4 short pieces of tape were placed over the extended portion of the aluminum tape to preserve the drive from grounding out. No problem simply because the drive is nonetheless grounded to through the four mounting screws. Slid the drive back in, booted up with Acronis, restored the OS and was up and running 15 minutes later. Just FYI. YMMVDell Inspiron 1100 |

Installed easily and with no drama. Newegg shipping is outstanding. Cost was excellent. I like WD. I have had nothing at all but issues with every other HD manufacturer but never one challenge with a WD. Formatted at only 111gb. I was replacing a SAMSUNG Spinpoint M Series HM120JC 120GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" ATA-6 Notebook Tough Drive -Bare Drive I bought right here at Newegg in 2007. It began to make a squeak noise periodcally soon after about a year. This went into an eMachines M5414. It runs hot which may possibly have led to the Samsung's early failure. I hope this 1 lasts longer. |

This drive replaced a slower rpm) and smaller ࿈GB) toshiba drive that was oem when I purchased my Toshiba A45-S150 years ago.I got a quite nice efficiency increase (shown in other thoughts) In case any person owning a similiar Toshiba cares, I painlessly cloned my old drive to the new one like this: 1 - attached my new WD laptop drive to this device (VANTEC CB-ISATAU2 SATA/IDE to USB two. Adapter - got it here at newegg) two - plugged it into a no cost USB port on my laptopthree - downloaded from WD website for totally free and then installed "Acronis" plan (it won't install unless at least a single attached drive is a WD product and my original HDD was not, which is why the new drive had to be connected). 4 - began Acronis when installed 5 - chose Clone6 - chose "automatic" settings for clone7 - swapped out my drives when prompted by the program, which powers off laptop very first for you when clone is carried out8 - laptop powered ideal up into windows with zero concerns. OS is winxp hom Just installed within the final 2 hours, so can't speak of durability yet. Utilizing passmark benchmark system, here is before and after:Ahead of (Toshiba 40GB, 4200rpm drive, 2MB buffer)ᚾMB/s Sequential read17MB/s Seq. write1.38MB/s random seek + RWImmediately afterᛚ.two MB/s Seq. read49.4MB/s Seq. writetwo.78Mb/s random seek + RWNote: I also removed the 512k installed memory on my laptop and installed 2GB of this: PNY Optima 1GB 200-Pin DDR SO-DIMM DDR 333 (PC 2700) ahead of upgrading my drive. I spent about 140 dollars total with shipping on everything (Hdd USB adapter, 2 sticks of ram, and this drive) and am happy I spent the cash - I don't use my old laptop adequate to justify acquiring a newer a single for what I use it for. Now the laptop actually hums along and the annoying lags triggered by the old elements are gone. I am quite happy. Thanks newegg for obtaining it here in less than 48 hours. |

Rapidly, Quiet Drive, Western Digital Reliability High-priced, but all PATA notebook drives are I purchased this to put in my Thinkpad T43 so that I could have a bit a lot more storage space, only to encounter a 2010 error. It works fine, but it's annoying to have the laptop beep each and every time it boots only to tell me that it's a non-thinkpad challenging drive. Google the error for far more info on it, it appears unavoidable to me. The drive itself is great, to prevent the hassle and restocking fee of an RMA, I'll just make it into an external. Too poor I couldn't upgrade my Thinkpad! |

It is a really inexpensive difficult drive. Also one of the quietest tricky drives I personally have owned. Western Digital Seriously did a excellent job on the noise. The difficult drive is 5400 RPM so it will give your old IDE Laptop's a bit of a increase. Shipping was incredible, thanks to newegg of course. You assume being a more quickly HDD, it would be faster, ...but i would have to disagree...I put this hard drive to the tes, and for getting a 5400RPM challenging drive, it genuinely isn't that a lot more rapidly then the OEM one particular that came with my laptop, which i nonetheless have as a backup, which is a 4200RPM. Each of them are with 8mb cache but just difference is the spin speed. If you are hunting for a quick HDD, this 1 i personally wouldn't recommend obtaining. It really doesn't appear to be any more quickly at all. Sorry WD, can not give you additional then 2 out of five |
Quiet, cool. None. Marvelous replacement or upgrade PATA/IDE drive for older notebooks.
