Western Digital WD My Passport Essential 500GB USB External Portable USB 3.0/2.0 Drive - Black
Cons:Pre-installed software, very short USB cable.
Pros:Compact, portable, good storage capacity. Comment:
The packaging of this product is somewhat misleading, as it doesn't make it clear that the drive is designed to be used as an automatic backup for your computer. Thankfully, there is a simple fix... Just format the drive the first time you plug it in, and you'll be able to use it as a standard external hard drive. I've only had it for a couple days, but I love how small and compact it is. One other note... The included USB cable is only about 18 inches long. It works okay for me, but I could see how this would be a problem for some people.Overall, a good product, as long as you know what you're getting. |

Western Digital WD My Passport Essential 500GB USB External Portable USB 3.0/2.0 Drive - Black
Cons:- Could be much thinner - 5400 RPM
Pros:- Lots of room, 500GB- USB 3.0 Comment:
Nice drive on the go, not the slimmest though. I wish it was 7200 RPM though, would been much nicer. |
I have been using WD portable hard drives for many years to contain my photos so they need to operate well and protect my data. I have taken these drives in my camera bag and have never had an issue. This one is a 500 GB model and is USB 3.0. WOW, am I pleased with the transfer rates. I am sure to pick up additional ones in the future as I need them. I tend to keep a full set of photos on two separate drives in two separate locations so I will need to purchase more and would not hesitate to use this model or one with higher storage. At $80 in January, this was a steal.
