Western Digital WD WD40EFRX 4TB Red SATA3 6GB/S Cache 64MB 3.5in Hard Drive
Cons:Aren't 6gb lol
Pros:Large capacity, silent operation, WD NAS quality Comment:
Not much to say, capacity is great and silent operation, I have these and a pair of 3tb models running in nas boxes 24/7 and feel confident in them, speed is what it should be for this class of drive, just wishing they would go 6tb. |

Western Digital WD WD40EFRX 4TB Red SATA3 6GB/S Cache 64MB 3.5in Hard Drive
Cons:still a bit too costly
Pros:4tb. enough said Comment:
very wary of large capacity drives. i've had several 3tb drives fail on me after less than a year so i'm hoping this one will last a bit longer. so far it seems to be alright but only time will tell. |

Western Digital WD WD40EFRX 4TB Red SATA3 6GB/S Cache 64MB 3.5in Hard Drive
Cons:as yet unknown
Pros:Quality, durability Comment:
First, WD is the premier drive mfg today. Others have once been good then drop quality in favour of profit, but this one keeps its quality high, always.Second, the Red series is a rock solid drive, specifically tailored for RAID operations. I am currently spinning a set of 4 in my QNAP NAS. Working very well, and I expect that to remain for a long time to come.Upgraded my NAS from the 2-drive model a year ago. It was running 2 x WD Red 2TB drives. Never a problem with them. As with every WD I have ever purchased. The only brand with 0 failures in 20 years, including my 10 years as university IT Manager. |

Western Digital WD WD40EFRX 4TB Red SATA3 6GB/S Cache 64MB 3.5in Hard Drive
Cons:had to use warranty
Pros:Good warranty Comment:
I bought two of these for a nas4free box. I decided to splurge and get the Reds to improve my reliability. One has been running fine for a year, the other failed after about 2 months. the RMA process was quick, hopefully the replacement gives me better luck. |

Western Digital WD WD40EFRX 4TB Red SATA3 6GB/S Cache 64MB 3.5in Hard Drive
Cons:None
Pros:Works fine. Comment:
Bought two. Sata connector broke upon installation. Lined up perfectly to hit a graphics card. Tried to RMA and pay for repair, but was informed that they don't repair.Informed that they use many types of controller cards and since I created the problem, the drive is a paper weight. I was suprised that repairing the drive was not an option. Lesson learned.Picked up a Toshiba 3TB drive during a recent sale. Was going to stick with the reds due to 5 yr warranty, but the warranty didn't provide me any additional protection.Disappointed in level of support/repair options. |

Western Digital WD WD40EFRX 4TB Red SATA3 6GB/S Cache 64MB 3.5in Hard Drive

Pros:-pretty quiet overall-good for low intensity home server builds Comment:
Put it on my rig for now to run some tests. should be great for my home server build coming up |

Western Digital WD WD40EFRX 4TB Red SATA3 6GB/S Cache 64MB 3.5in Hard Drive
Cons:Cost
Pros:Quiet, low vibration, reliable so far Comment:
Costs a bit more than standard desktop hard drives do, but reliability has been perfect so far. I purchased 4 of these to go in a Windows Home Server in a RAID-5 array. No problems, huge capacity - can't complain. |

Western Digital WD WD40EFRX 4TB Red SATA3 6GB/S Cache 64MB 3.5in Hard Drive
Cons:Unconfirmed bad reliability with other resellers.
Pros:Designed especially for NAS Comment:
I'm putting 4 of these in a Synology DS1513+, and adding another drive later. Nothing I can really say except these are HDD built specifically for NAS and that can only be a good thing. There are other resellers whose customers report shoddy drives, though that is likely a result of bad handling, not what I would expect from NCIX. Will update review accordingly if I get any DOA drives. |
Nice capacity, quiet. Use this in my NAS (freenas ZFS) and have not had any issues. Would definitely buy again.
