Zalman ZM-2HC2 5.25IN Drive Bay Cooler For 3.5IN Hard Drive W/ Rubber Dampers & Heatpipes
Cons:-Doesn't remove low hum of drive
Pros:-Easy to install-Adequate cooling Comment:
I bought this only for the silencing feature. However it didn't stop the low hum vibration of my drive. I think this will work on very noisy drives to quiet them down some, but it doesn't create a silent drive. If you're looking for silent, I would go for an internal aluminum enclosure, or a new drive. |

Zalman ZM-2HC2 5.25IN Drive Bay Cooler For 3.5IN Hard Drive W/ Rubber Dampers & Heatpipes
Cons:-Does not cool drive very much-Ground cable too short
Pros:-Keeps drive quiet-Solid design-Looks neat-Comes with extra screws Comment:
I installed this on a 15K RPM drive. It does not seem to cool the drive very much, but it keeps the drive silent. This item would be great for a HTPC or any other computer that has to be silent. |

Zalman ZM-2HC2 5.25IN Drive Bay Cooler For 3.5IN Hard Drive W/ Rubber Dampers & Heatpipes
Cons:Grounding strap can be a pain
Pros:Keeps drive very cool and quiet Comment:
I use this for a 36G Raptor that sits in a Sonata II case along with 4 other HDDs and 1 optical drive. Used to have the Raptor in the external 3.5" above the floppy and kept getting random BSOD - not to mention the drive was loud. Now my noise and heat problems are solved. |
If you want to make a DIY Mini ITX HTPC case with heatsinks on the outside, this is the best thing to buy to get a lot of usable heatpipes for cheap. then you just need a "bending spring"not sure about the duration of ownership, i had the old version, which did its job great. when i didnt need it any more the heatpipes were put to good use on various projects.
