acomdata Tango TNGXXXUFAE-BLK Black External Enclosure
Cons:does require screws and screwdriver to assemble/disassemble, the 2 usb connectors on the cable (2nd for extra power if needed) can get confusing so be sure to read the manual before plugging the enclosure to your computer. Not really a weakness as it's usually not needed but optional AC cord not included (you don't need one normally anyway). $22 after MIR but rebate seems to take a while, 1st or 2nd week of November since I sent it in and still waiting for confirmation that it was received.
Pros:Slim solid aluminum design acts like a heatsink, easy assembly, drive fits very flush inside enclosure, no cables to worry about the SATA connectors are perfectly lined up on the PCB board inside so drive just slides into place with no room to slide loose. Works fine, has both USB 2.0 and 2xFirewire 1394a for daisy chaining, also has a tiny (assumably 5V) AC jack for extra power if power over usb is not possible. Firewire provides additional compatibility and Firewire is normally faster than USB 2.0 for hard drives. Silent operation due to no fan and depending on drive operation noise. |
Well I only used it a few times but after reading the instructions to make sure I understand the dual usb connectors everything was simple to use. Worked fine, no problems, Not sure how well it's insulated against electrostatic shock but the PCB board inside is raised away from resting on the metal casing.
