brother PT-1230PC PC Connectable Label Maker
Cons:no power adapter it uses batterys

Pros:inexpensiveyou can connect it to a pc
Comment:
for a label printer you connect to the computer I would have expected it would include a power cable or at least be powerd by USB but you need to buy an additional addapter or you need to use AA batterys in it. the addapter costs as much as I paid for the printer $30 tho i found one on ebay for $10. all in all i guess you get what you pay for. its worth the sale price but not much more.

brother PT-1230PC PC Connectable Label Maker
Cons:Doesn't come with a power cordPower cord bought separately is expensiveLiterally eats batteriesWaste a lot of tape

Pros:Fast and clean printingCan be obtained at a reasonable price (around 35-40$)
Comment:
It works fine, even with very small police size it is still readable. Unfortunately it wastes a lot of tape (almost a inch left at the end of every label printed). Also it consumes a lot of batteries. It requires 6 AAA batteries and they must be almost fully charged otherwise you get a warning in the middle of the printing saying the batteries are depleted and when it does, you waste tape again because it restarts the printing from the beginning after you change the batteries. Seriously consider buying the power cord (nearly 30$)

brother PT-1230PC PC Connectable Label Maker
Cons:Requires 6 AAA batteries or expensive power adapter.Label cassettes are expensive ($15-$29)

Pros:Small and light.Adjustable fonts and print sizePrice on sale
Comment:
We use the larger Brother labellers extensively at work so I was familiar with the great job they can do.Got this when it was on sale for $27. I use it for occasional labeling around the house and my daughter uses it for her school projects and text books etc. It's small so it does not take up much storage space when not needed. The software is easy to use for basic labels. When needed, I can just plug it in, print the labels from the computer and it's done. No fuss or bother - just a simple label maker.

brother PT-1230PC PC Connectable Label Maker
Cons:Requires 6 AAA batteries or a $25 adapterComes with low-capacity "sample" tapeReplacement tapes expensive

Pros:Works well, even in LinuxLow cost, if on sale
Comment:
I have an older handheld P-Touch P-80 that ran out of tape. Tapes are quite expensive, about $22, and the labeller only cost $14 so obviously it sat around while I did any labelling with Sharpies. Then this was on crazy sale - $26.99 - barely more than the tape, so I jumped on it.Since I use Ubuntu I checked for Linux support first. Brother does not provide a Linux driver but someone has come out with a program, see http://apz.fi/blabel/ This works well in Ubuntu except for the very largest size fonts. It's a labeller, what more can I say...If you're using Windows you'll probably really like the fact that the labelling software is included in flash memory in the printer itself. More fully-featured software is included at the Brother site, as well as a means to update  the built-in software. Sorry Mac users, this won't work for a Mac.I guess my only disappointments are that you either have to load it up with 6 AAA batteries or get a $25 adapter, that it comes with low-capacity sample tape and that replacement tapes are pricey. Still, I don't think I'll mind ponying up the cash if I was to move again - it's really handy for moving, and one full-capacity tape handled our move and then some.Highly recommended, especially on sale.
