nGear Aluminum Storage Case Case 40 X 22 X 27 CM
Cons:Not bulletproof, not waterproof, plasticized "metal", didn't come with Charlize Theron inside. At this price, no real weaknesses.
Pros:Cheap, fairly rigid consttuction, perfect size for my intended use (see below) as offline drive storage |

nGear Aluminum Storage Case Case 40 X 22 X 27 CM
Cons:Metal is very thin, doesn't feel as strong as I would like
Pros:Really big size, aluminum construction, padded interior Comment:
Got this when on sale for tools and such. Great size and all metal construction. I does feel a little cheap so I am not going to put anything too heavy in it. Decent otherwise. |
I went looking for a case to store a lot of 3.5" hard drives (my backups) offine to provide a bit of protection and keep them organized in one dust-free, padded, anti-static place. Granted the "real" brand-name cases for this task are waterproof and such but they are obscenely priced. This case on sale for $14 with a little salvaged anti-static (dense, gray) foam, a glue gun, and some extra hardboard (1/8" thickness to fit inside "rails") to make extra "dividers" and I'm a lot better off than the cardboard box I was using. If you make 5 extra dividers (total investment $7 extra) you can perfectly store eight 3.5" hard disks with plenty of padding space and even room for a couple important backup/recovery OS discs. This solves my "grab and go in an emergency" reason for packing my spare drives in this fashion. After our forest fire last summer that need became obvious.
